Features: Currently, on the land of China, a profound transformation is taking place in the field of basic education—the shift from exam-oriented education to quality-oriented education. Quality-oriented education reflects an accurate understanding and grasp of the nature and tasks of basic education, as well as a pursuit of ideal education. Basic education systems around the world are also actively exploring quality-oriented education, conducting various experiments, and striving to improve students' qualities. While their development directions share similarities with ours, their approaches and operations differ. The author went to the United States to study the implementation of quality-oriented education, paying close attention to accumulation and conducting dedicated research. It can be said that this small book is a microcosm of the reform of elementary education in the United States, providing vivid material for the in-depth implementation of quality-oriented education, offering great inspiration. The key to implementing quality-oriented education lies in changing perspectives. Educational philosophy and concepts should be reflected and implemented in educational and management practices. Based on his observations and experiences, the author has summarized and refined the state of elementary education in the United States. Although it is not systematic or comprehensive, it has allowed us to feel the new educational atmosphere and the sparks of advanced educational ideas that flicker here and there. Quality-oriented education is not intangible or mysterious; it is clear, specific, and practical. If our elementary education can take a broad perspective while focusing on small details, truly starting with every small action, then quality-oriented education will be effectively implemented, and elementary education will undoubtedly make greater progress. Elementary education workers should conduct comparisons and research between Chinese and foreign education. Through comparison, we can discover our strengths and weaknesses, and through research, we can clarify our development direction and elevate our educational philosophy. While there are weaknesses in the elementary education of the United States, why is it that some consider its elementary education "lower in level" yet it is linked to high-quality higher education and follows a highly developed technological society? We must re-examine and evaluate the elementary education of the United States. Indeed, in some aspects, the elementary education of the United States is not as good as that of China, but in terms of student-centeredness, holistic development of students' qualities, and fostering individuality, there is much we can learn from it. We should not be overly humble, nor should we be blindly confident. The author has made some comparisons in this small book and expressed his own views, which is excellent. I hope, based on this foundation, that everyone can conduct a comprehensive examination and introduction of the elementary education of the United States, and evaluate and compare the elementary education of China and the United States with other countries. Perhaps, it is in such learning, comparison, and exploration that educational specialists and educators are born.
