This series is organized by the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads and is a research outcome of the Beijing Step-by-Step Quality Education Research Institute. Since its publication by the Olympic Press, it has stood out uniquely and is deeply loved by teachers, parents, and students. After significant revisions, re-editions, or complete rewrites, it has been renamed "Gold Medal Olympiad" and "Gold Medal School" series and is now re-published and distributed by Jinghua Publishing House. On this occasion of the re-publication, we sincerely thank millions of readers across the country.
Subject Olympiads for primary and secondary schools (referred to as "Subject Olympiads") are one of the most extensive, widely participated, and influential subject competition activities for primary and secondary school students in China. Subject Olympiads are derived from and extended from the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the International Physics Olympiad (IPHO), the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), and other internationally influential middle school subject competitions that attract millions of young students every year. The reason for such widespread attention lies in the strong innovation, flexibility, and comprehensiveness of Olympiads, as well as their focus on cultivating students' exploration skills and inspiring their innovative awareness. These are precisely the core elements of quality education, which are also essential for future development.
Based on years of in-depth research on this activity both domestically and internationally, as well as a large number of outstanding books in this category, the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited outstanding educators dedicated to this field from all over the country to write and publish a series of books on mathematics, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology, and information technology—comprising over 200 varieties under the "Gold Medal Olympiad" and "Gold Medal School" series. In terms of variety, quantity, and quality, our Olympiad books are the most influential in the industry both domestically and internationally and are the most appealing to primary and secondary school teachers and students.
The purpose and characteristics of the "Gold Medal Olympiad" and "Gold Medal School" series are as follows:
1. High: Derived from textbooks but exceeding them. Derived from textbooks means it is written in accordance with the latest [curriculum standards] of the Ministry of Education; exceeding textbooks means it is closely aligned with the competition syllabi of various levels, ensuring comprehensive alignment in content, question types, and skill requirements. It aims to cultivate interest, develop intelligence, and enhance abilities.
2. Accurate: Scientifically precise and well-structured. Each book is designed hierarchically based on subject characteristics, scientifically organized, and follows a step-by-step approach to provide in-depth yet accessible analysis and detailed problem-solving methods.
3. New: Features novel and engaging question types. It compiles the essence of recent Olympiad, middle school, and high school exam questions from both China and abroad, representing the highest level of current Olympiad standards and reflecting new concepts in curriculum reform, as well as innovative ideas, methods, and trends in competition question-setting.
4. Refined: Selects exemplary problems that are challenging yet logical, flexible, and achievable. It emphasizes learning by example and applying knowledge to different contexts; it encourages multi-solution, multi-variable, and multi-question approaches to problems, focusing on training thinking skills rather than rote memorization, making learning an enjoyable hobby.
5. Renowned: Features contributions from distinguished educators and coaches. The Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited renowned professors from top universities, elite teachers from key secondary schools, senior teachers, subject leaders, and famous Olympiad medal coaches to collaborate on the series.
