Author: Zhu Xiaozang
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2005-06-01
Features: The series collects five complete collections of Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Jin, and Yuan Ci, as well as 168 separate collections of Tang, Song, Jin, and Yuan Ci. If we include the Ci of Fan Zhongren (Fan Wenzheng Gong Shi Yu) attached to his son Fan Chunren, the Ci of Zhang Mu (Nanhu Shi Yu) attached to his grandson Zhang Shu, the Ci of Yu Ji (Dao Yuan Yue Fu) attached to Feng Zunshi's Ci in "Ming He Yu Yin," and the Ci of Xu Youren (Gui Tang Yue Fu Bie Ji) attached to his brother Xu Youfu, then there are 172 collections (as recorded by Zhao Guizhang in "Quan Jin Yuan Ci"). If the six Ci in "Gui Tang Yue Fu Bie Ji" are assigned to Xu Youfu and Xu Zhen, as determined by him, then one more collection must be added). Large-scale Ci collections have existed at the latest since the Southern Song Dynasty. Chen Yuansun's "Zhili Shulu Jiezi" (Volume 21) records the "Nan Tang Erzhu Ci" and other Tang and Five Dynasties Ci collections, as well as 91 separate collections of Nan Tang and two Song Dynasties, describing them as "all printed by the Changsha bookshops and called 'Hundred Collections of Ci.'" Zhang Yan's "Ci Yuan" (Volume 2) also mentions "a published collection of 'Sixty Collections of Ci.'" Due to the passage of time, these two collections may have single works in circulation, but the full scope of the collections remains unseen. What can be seen today began with Mao Jin's compilation and publication of "Sixty Famous Song Collections of Ci" in the late Ming Dynasty, which actually included 61 separate collections of Song Ci. Later, in the late Qing Dynasty, Peng Yun compiled "Four Yin Qi Ci" and "Thirty-One Song and Yuan Collections of Ci," which included two Tang and Five Dynasties Ci collections and 49 separate collections of Nan Tang and Song, Jin, and Yuan Ci. If we add three separate collections of Song Ci by Wu Wenying, Zhu Dongru, and Zhou Mi that were not included in the above two collections, the total becomes 52 collections. In the early Republic of China, Wu Changshou published "Jing Kan Song Yuan Ben Ci" and Tao Xiang published "Continued Publication of Jing Kan Jin Yuan Ming Ben Ci," "Continued Publication of Jing Song Jin Yuan Ming Ben Ci Bie Bian," which included six Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Jin, and Yuan Ci collections and 34 separate collections of Song, Jin, Yuan, and Ming Ci. The series "Series" is renowned alongside these other collections in chronological order.
