Features: Conceptual design, like other design styles and schools, is influenced by various levels of society. Their marvelous ideas and creations are also shaped by social experience. As the world continues to change, its development to this day remains an ongoing process that has yet to be completed. This small book showcases numerous design works believed to embody the above definitions, organized into six aspects— (graphic), (industrial), (spatial), (fashion), (photography), and (craft)—to delight the readers.
The ancient Chinese character for "" (chū) combines "" (yī, clothing) and "" (rén, person). Some theories suggest this character represents the mark of primitive humans' transition to civilization, closely related to clothing. Let us set aside whether this theory is reliable for now, but the evolution of the concept of human clothing indeed reflects the progress of human civilization. Clothing has evolved from its original simple functions like warmth and protection to a spiritual realm of covering the body. At the same time, armor emerged, serving both defensive purposes and aesthetic appeal, often denoting social hierarchy. Today, this transformation continues.
What exactly is the concept of clothing? Emerging designers have conducted extensive explorations, and numerous fashion brands are actively developing and supporting new conceptual clothing designs to capture future markets. Modern conceptual fashion design also advocates for individuality and rebellion. Some designers treat clothing as a medium, using the human body as a canvas for installation art or performance. Traditional concepts of clothing—such as function, gender, materials, and cutting—have all become subjects of new conceptual design.
