Features: The book is preceded by a preface written by the renowned sinologist, Professor Schiffrin. In addition to providing a brief introduction to Chen as a disciple of Kang Youwei, the preface highly praises Chen's exquisite research on the economic thoughts of Confucius and his school using a Western economic framework. This book is one of the early Chinese economic thought masterpieces published in the West in the early 20th century, and also one of the earliest masterpieces of economic discipline publications by Chinese scholars in the West (Hu Jixiang, Outline of Modern Chinese Thought History, page 476, Beijing: China Social Sciences Press, December 1984 edition). It may also be the first doctoral dissertation by Chinese students studying in Europe and America on Chinese themes published in Western countries, hence its special documentary and academic value.
