Features: This textbook was compiled based on the key research project of Jiaying University titled "Research on Mandarin Teaching in Areas." The research team members include all teachers from the Oral Language Teaching Group of the Teacher Training and Professional Development Office at Jiaying University, namely: Lü Jianguo, Hou Xiasheng, Ji Fengxia, Feng Liyun, and Lu Yuan. In 2001, the team conducted preliminary linguistic surveys in over a dozen dialect points across various counties and cities in Meizhou City and organized the phonetic, rhyming, and tone systems, as well as their corresponding patterns, laying a certain foundation for the compilation of this textbook. The national common language is the language used for communication within a nation and is one of the main markers for identifying an independent ethnic group. The national common language is generally formed on the basis of a dialect. The formation of the Han ethnic group's common language has a long history and has always been based on the Northern dialect. It emerged as early as the Xia, Shang, Zhou, and Spring and Autumn periods in ancient times. The Han ethnic group's common language at that time was called "Yayan" and was primarily popular in the Yellow River Basin, used in official and diplomatic circles of the time.
