Features: Published two hundred years ago, Li Dou's Record of the Yangzhou Boat Festival provides a detailed account of the prosperous history of Yangzhou during the Kangxi and Qianlong reigns. It comprehensively showcases the city's thriving cultural and economic life, beautiful mountains and gardens, and the humanistic landscape of the time, as well as various aspects such as social customs. It had a significant promotional effect. Its influence extended to making Yangzhou a destination envied by all. Li Dou's work has no greater achievement! However, with the passage of time and frequent wars, the once picturesque scenery, the splendid gardens, and the bustling streets have gradually fallen into desolation and decline. The pavilions, towers, and terraces are now dilapidated and faded, losing their former brilliance; the painted boats on the lake are few and far between. The once renowned Yangzhou, the famous city of the left bank of the Huai River and the beautiful place of Zhu Xi, has fallen into a state of disrepair and neglect, leaving behind a desolate and unforgettable landscape.
After its publication, although its original intention of providing a reference for restoring the old scenic spots has been in vain, it remains a reliable record of Yangzhou's scenery during the Republican era, serving as a basis for reflecting on the past. If considered a continuation of Record of the Yangzhou Boat Festival, it is more than worthy of the title. Several chapters in it can still serve as references for the restoration and renovation of ancient scenic spots, making it far from mere theoretical discussions. Additionally, the articles and poems scattered throughout the appendices of various volumes also contain many valuable historical documents.
