Features: This is a theoretical monograph that studies the interactive relationship between Confucian learning and literature during the Qing Dynasty. Based on rich and substantial documentary materials, it focuses on clarifying the internal laws of mutual influence and transformation between Confucian learning and literature in their respective developmental stages during the Qing Dynasty. Taking the emergence of Confucian learning in the early Qing, its peak in the Qianlong and Jiaqing reigns, and its decline in the late Qing as a reference, it conducts an in-depth study of the changes in Confucian learning and the emergence, development, and evolution of literary concepts, literary trends, literary creation, and literary research over nearly three centuries in the Qing Dynasty. It proposes the insight that the evolution of Qing Dynasty literature coincides with the changes in Qing Dynasty Confucian studies. This book not only emphasizes the vertical analysis of the relationship between Confucian learning and literature but also highlights the horizontal penetration between the two. It combines both longitudinal and synchronic perspectives, breaking the old model of studying Qing Dynasty literature, which has long been biased toward tracing the developmental process of literature and appreciating and reviewing literary works, thus opening up new avenues for the study of Qing Dynasty literature.
