Publishing Date: 2006-01-01
Features: The Record of a Journey to the South of the Capital was written by Zhang Li of the Northern Song Dynasty during his travels with friends to the southern area of Jingzhao Prefecture (now the southern suburbs of Xi'an and the Chang'an region) in the intercalary second month of the first year of Emperor Zhaozong (1086). It records hundreds of natural landscapes, historical figures, and events, providing a true account of the decline of the southern area of Chang'an after the turmoil of the late Tang Dynasty. It is an important historical geographical document for understanding and researching the evolution of the outer city of the Tang capital Chang'an and its southern suburban natural and human geography. This book has been annotated by the late renowned historian Shi Nianhai and Professor Cao Erqin. The annotations, in addition to textual collation and punctuation, mainly combine historical documents and field investigations to provide detailed notes on the numerous geographical and human records in the book, facilitating readers' understanding of the historical and modern geographical changes in this region and offering new historical geographical research findings for academia.
