Features: Tang Xicheng (1924—1993), also known as Fashen, was a native of Wusi County, Henan Province. During his lifetime, he was a member of the China Theatre Association, a council member of Henan Province's Theatre Association, and a member of the provincial political consultative conference. He was a first-class actor and a renowned Yuju opera performance artist. At the age of 10, he joined the "Wanle Troupe" in Changge County to study acting and later performed with the "Er Youkang" troupe in Xuchang and the "Si Jie Ban" troupe in Xinzheng. In 1949, he joined the Zhengzhou People's Troupe and was later transferred to the Xuchang People's Troupe and the Henan Provincial Army Troupe. In 1956, he was transferred to the Second Troupe of Henan Yuju Theatre as a leading actor. He has successively created many stage art images, such as Yang Yanjing in "Xuanmen Zhanzi," Wu Yunzhao in "Nanyang Pass," Kuang Zhong in "Fifteen Guans," Dong Xuan in "Luoyang Ling," and Yan Tianmin in "Xue Jian Wu Sha." In 1959, he won the first prize for actors at the second Henan Province for his outstanding performance as Li Shimin in "San Cu Dian." He had a wide vocal range and pure tone quality. With his unique singing style known as the "second primary tone," he formed the artistic style of the Tang School in the male role, characterized by high-pitched and sweet sounds, making significant contributions to enriching the singing techniques of male roles in Yuju opera.
