Features: During the Yan'an period, Comrade Mao Zedong delivered the "Talk at the Yan'an Forum on Literature and Art," which had a tremendous spiritual uplifting effect. Literary and artistic workers fully and deeply integrated with the masses in the liberated areas, authentically reflecting the battle life of the Chinese national liberation movement. At the same time, woodcut creation absorbed the nourishment of folk art (such as paper-cutting, window decorations, and woodblock New Year paintings), creating a new national style with a Chinese flavor that was widely favored by the public. With their rustic and naive rural charm and powerful, concise cutting techniques, they formed the regional characteristics of black-and-white woodcuts in the liberated areas. Those locally rooted artists, with their profound personal styles, won widespread acclaim and became a unique creative group in the history of world woodcuts. Works such as Gu Yuan's "Office of the Village Government," Li Qun's "Drinking," Liu Xan's "Strengthen Unity, Fight to the End," Yan Han's "When the Enemy Searches the Mountains," and the works of Luo Gongliu, Shi Lu, and Wang Qi, as well as Li Hua's "Roar, China!" from the Kuomintang-controlled areas, along with the names of their authors, together wrote a brilliant new chapter in the history of Chinese woodcuts.
