Whether human body art, especially human body photography art, is worthy of recognition has always been a topic of debate among people. In some religious countries, it is still a taboo and forbidden area. But no matter how people argue, in the long river of art history, it is a spring that cannot be contained, always developing brightly or dimly. As early as the Stone Age, our ancestors used stone carvings and pottery sculptures to depict naked goddesses, as evidenced by unearthed artifacts in Loisel, France; Willenborg, Austria; and Kailazhou and Jianping County, Liaoning Province, China. Although photography was invented later, it did not fall behind. Daguerre immediately focused his lens on naked women when the silver plate photography method was introduced. Even in China, where sexual concepts are relatively strict, people dared to taste this forbidden fruit after the May Fourth Movement. At that time, Liu Banong and others from Beijing's photography group "Guang She" hired the wives of rickshaw pullers as models, pioneering the tradition of photographing the human body in China. It seems that this is a "common interest" of Eastern and Western cultures. Since the 1980s, with the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy, the usually reserved Chinese artists have also begun to boldly engage in the creation of human body art, frequently holding exhibitions and publishing human body art albums. The "Oil Painting Human Body Art Exhibition" in Beijing in 1988 and the "National Human Body Photography Art Exhibition" in Guangzhou in 2001 shocked the literary world; after entering the 21st century, many Chinese photographers moved from the underground to the open, taking models to all corners of the country, sparking a trend in human body photography, which caused considerable social shock. Some praised it, some doubted it, some waited and saw, and some were, believing that it was not in line with the national conditions and harmful to public morals. How should we deal with this artistic phenomenon? How should we evaluate the quality of human body photography works? It is very worthwhile to explore some theoretical discussions. The history of Chinese human body photography art has spanned more than 80 years since the 1920s. As the saying goes, "At thirty, one should stand firm; at forty, one should be free from doubt." It has reached the age of maturity. Today, Chinese human body photography has officially entered the art hall, but in its development, there have been twists and turns and lessons to be learned, as well as the phenomenon of filling the ranks, which leaves us with many topics for summary and reflection.
