How is endometriosis detected?

Patient's question:

I went to the hospital for pre-pregnancy tests, and the doctor told me I have endometriosis. I usually feel fine and have had regular health check-ups in the past without any issues. How was the endometriosis detected?

Doctor's answer:

Endometriosis is when the endometrium grows outside the uterine cavity. Its main symptoms include progressively worsening dysmenorrhea, infertility, and dyspareunia. Women of reproductive age with secondary dysmenorrhea that progressively worsens, infertility, or chronic pelvic pain, along with a gynecological examination revealing cystic masses connected to the uterus or painful nodules in the pelvis, can be preliminarily diagnosed with endometriosis. However, clinical diagnosis often requires imaging tests, blood tests, and laparoscopic examination to further confirm the diagnosis. Laparoscopic examination of the pelvis, along with pathological examination of the lesions, is the basis for diagnosis.
