Patient's question:
Doctor patient I feel very uncomfortable down there, sometimes it itches, sometimes it swells up, and then when I have time, I go to the hospital for a thorough check-up. The doctor said I have leukoplakia of the vulva. What are the causes of leukoplakia of the vulva?Doctor's answer:
Vaginal leukoplakia, also known as chronic vulvar dystrophy or vulvar leukoplakia, is a condition whose exact cause is not fully understood. It may be related to irritants in the dermis that cause local fibrosis or promote the breakdown of the epidermis in that area. It may also be associated with dysregulation of neurovascular and endocrine functions in the deep connective tissues of the vulva, combined with local moisture and the irritation of secretions, leading to pathological changes in the normal skin covering the affected area.
