Features: Shi Tao (1642-1707), a renowned painter and art theorist of the early Qing Dynasty. A descendant of the Ming royal family and the heir to the Prince of Jingjiang, he was from Guangxi. He excelled in landscape, orchid, bamboo, flowers, and fruits, and was also skilled in calligraphy, poetry, and seal carving. He authored the art theory masterpiece The Sayings of the Melon-Seed Monk (Kehu Hansu Huayu Luyu) and other works compiled by later generations, such as The Paintings and Poems of the Great Purifier (Dadi Zi Tuihua Shibu) and Notes of the Qingxiang Elder (Qingxiang Laoren Tijì). His art theories, such as "I use my own methods," "searching for all the wonders of the peaks to draft," and "the method of one stroke," had a profound influence on later Chinese painting. He was revered by Mr. Wu Guanzhong as the "Father of Modern Painting." This collection carefully selects some of his outstanding landscape paintings for appreciation.
