High Knees Marching to Music in 2/4 Time, Medium Speed.
Preparation Posture: Stand at attention, arms hanging naturally. Ta: Right leg forward relevé 90 degrees, thigh level, pointed foot, lower leg tucked in, arms swing to the right (see Figure 2).
1st Beat: Right leg returns to attention, arms return to natural position. Ta~
2nd Beat: Perform the opposite action.
In-place Small Jogging with Heel Kicks to Music in 2/4 Time, Medium Speed.
Preparation Posture: Stand at attention, hands on hips.
1st Beat: Left leg jumps in place, right leg kicks back with pointed foot (see Figure 3).
2nd Beat: Right leg jumps in place, left leg kicks back with pointed foot.
Note: In 2/4 or 4/4 time music, the Ta beat often appears. Ta indicates the second half of a beat, expressed in musical rhythm as: xxxx. Dance rhythms are usually read as: |1x2X|, meaning 1Ta2Ta|. If the Ta beat appears before the first measure, meaning the action starts on the weak beat of the music, such as: XXXXX, i.e., Tal1Ta2Ta.
Pointed Foot with Small Front Leg Hops to Music in 2/4 Time, Medium Speed.
Preparation Posture: Stand at attention, hands on hips. Ta: Left leg steps in place, left leg demi-plié, right leg forward small relevé.
1st Beat: Left leg extends to demi-pointe, right leg hops forward 25 degrees (see Figure 4). Ta~
2nd Beat: Perform the opposite action.
Side Step with Taps to Music in 2/4 Time, Medium Speed.
Preparation Posture: Stand at attention, hands on hips.
