What are the characteristics of endometrial polyps bleeding?

Patient's question:

Last night I heard my friend say that her endometrial polyps had broken. Suddenly, I wanted to know what the characteristics of endometrial polyps breaking are?

Doctor's answer:

Endometrial polyps are polypoid proliferations formed by endometrial inflammation. They may not cause any symptoms, or they may lead to abnormal bleeding such as vaginal spotting outside of the menstrual period. Most endometrial polyps manifest as prolonged menstrual bleeding. Some small polyps with small stalks may be expelled in two pieces during the shedding of the endometrium with the menstrual period. Those that cannot be expelled on their own require hysteroscopic resection of endometrial polyps.
