Patient's question:
Hello doctor, I am 32 years old and got married 2 years ago, but currently have no children. My last menstrual period ended on the 1st of this month, and on the 8th, I noticed some vaginal tearing. When I pressed on the lower right side of my abdomen, it felt a bit painful. At the hospital, after a thorough examination, the doctor said it was a corpus luteum cyst. However, the doctor was quite vague with their explanation, and I didn't quite understand it. I would like to consult whether a corpus luteum cyst requires treatment?Doctor's answer:
Clinical suspicion: A normal corpus luteum is a cystic structure that can cause the ovary to slightly shrink. If the cystic corpus luteum persists or grows, or if the corpus luteum hematoma contains a large amount of blood, which is then reabsorbed, it can lead to corpus luteum cyst formation. Since the cyst continuously secretes progesterone, it often causes delayed menstruation. If the cyst ruptures, it can cause abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding, which is very similar to the rupture of an ectopic pregnancy.Advice: Generally, there is no special treatment required, as it can resolve on its own. Follow-up with an ultrasound after menstruation is recommended. If the cyst ruptures again or the pedicle twists, emergency treatment should be administered.
