Is trichomoniasis contagious?

Patient's question:

For the past few days, I've been feeling some itching in my vagina, and occasionally a burning sensation. Also, my discharge has been abnormal, with a slightly greenish color. After a thorough examination at the hospital, it was found to be trichomoniasis. I would like to consult if I have been infected with trichomoniasis. I have had sexual activity recently.

Doctor's answer:

Trichomoniasis is contagious, especially due to mutual infection between partners. Therefore, if one partner is being treated for trichomoniasis, both partners should be treated simultaneously. If the male partner does not receive treatment, the female's vaginal infection is likely to recur repeatedly, even though the male may experience minimal symptoms at times. During treatment, underwear should be boiled in hot water for more than 10 minutes to gradually eliminate the trichomonads.
