As a part of the great motherland, Ningxia, after its liberation, underwent two historical stages in its initial 17 years: the completion of socialist transformation and the beginning of building socialism in full swing. During this period, the provincial system of Ningxia was abolished, and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region was established. Overall, this period of socialist revolution and construction achieved remarkable accomplishments.
However, during the 10 years of the "Cultural Revolution," the extreme-left trend prevailed, severely damaging Ningxia's economy and plunging society into chaos. Since the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Party Congress, the Party corrected the "left" errors, and Ningxia has made great strides on the path of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, achieving remarkable accomplishments in reform, opening-up, and modernization. This has made it the most glorious period in Ningxia's history since its liberation over 50 years.
Ningxia is a remote region with a relatively small economic output and weak economic strength, ranking among the economically underdeveloped areas of the country. However, as one of the five ethnic minority regions in China and a western province with great development potential, Ningxia, as a member of the socialist motherland with distinct ethnic and regional characteristics, plays an indispensable role in achieving China's third-phase modernization construction strategic goal.
