How to care for vaginal itching

Patient's question:

After cohabiting with my husband, I experienced vaginal itching and a curd-like discharge. Sometimes my external genital area itches too, especially at night. My husband's area is also itchy, and he has discharge too?

Doctor's answer:

Considering it may be caused by fungal vaginitis leading to vaginal itching and cheesy-like discharge. Currently, focus on rest and nutrition, avoid spicy foods, maintain local cleanliness and hygiene, and use alkaline solutions such as 2~4% sodium bicarbonate to rinse the external genitalia and vagina. This helps alter the vaginal pH to favor fungal growth. After rinsing, insert Nystatin tablets or suppositories into the vagina. During treatment, strictly avoid sexual intercourse.
For patients with vaginal itching, in addition to taking medication for symptomatic relief, herbal remedies can be used as supplementary treatment in daily life. Proper dietary habits should be maintained, avoiding irritating foods.
