Is birth control pill a hormone drug?

Patient's question:

I have taken emergency contraception twice this year. Every time I take the birth control pill, my menstrual cycle becomes irregular. Is it because the birth control pill is a hormone-based medication that interferes with it? Does the birth control pill contain hormones?

Doctor's answer:

Contraceptives are made by mixing progesterone or estrogen, or by combining single progesterone with many other configuration drugs. After taking contraceptives, the side effects can be relatively significant. It may cause withdrawal bleeding again or lead to menstrual disorders. Some people may also experience gastrointestinal discomfort with symptoms such as nausea and dry vomiting. Emergency contraceptives can be taken within 72 hours. The earlier the contraceptives are taken, the better the effect on breastfeeding may be.
