Walk into Mao Zedong

Author: Jiang Jianong
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-12-01
Features: The book "Getting Closer to Mao Zedong" was inspired by the author's involvement in compiling the "Chronology of Mao Zedong." The first draft was completed in May 1989, and it was published by United Front Publishing House in January 1990. The original manuscript for volumes six and seven was written by my colleague Cao Zhiwei, while volumes one, two, three, four, and five were written by me. This is the book we completed. At the time, it coincided with the "Mao Zedong fever," and although the manuscript wasn't very long, it was published in 55,000 copies and had a certain impact. To celebrate the 110th anniversary of Mao Zedong's birth, we were invited by the Central Party History Publishing House to revise and expand the book. I revised and supplemented the content of each section of the original manuscript and restructured the overall format. My other good friend Wang Benqian then wrote additional new content based on our co-authored book "Edgar Snow and China" and independently compiled "A Chronology of Edgar Snow and China Events" as Appendix I at the end. Appendix II was written by Jiang Jianong. I am very grateful to Shi Yijun for helping to collect many valuable historical photographs to insert into the book, greatly enhancing its appeal. I would also like to thank Tang Lixin, Yan Lei, and other colleagues at United Front Publishing House for their hard work in the publication process. Due to our limited capabilities, there must still be many shortcomings in the manuscript. We sincerely ask experts, scholars, and to continue to criticize and correct us.
