What are the signs of labor?

Patient's question:

I'm almost at my due date in less than a week, and I'm feeling very sad. Also, my stomach sometimes hurts. I want to understand what the signs are when labor is approaching?

Doctor's answer:

There are several signs of labor before delivery:
1. Before the uterus begins to contract, blood may reappear 24 to 48 hours earlier. Typically, the mother notices a mixture of bloody and mild, viscous mucus flowing from the vagina. This occurs because when the cervix is blocked, it becomes soft and thin. Although this is a sign of impending labor, it does not necessarily mean the baby will be born immediately.
2. When you start to feel contractions that resemble labor pains, you can estimate the time interval between one pain and the next and the frequency. If the intervals are long, about 10 to 20 minutes, and the pain improves after walking or resting, it is likely false labor, and there is no need to go to the hospital immediately.
3. The rupture of amniotic fluid is caused by the breaking of the amniotic sac and the surrounding amniotic fluid.
