He belonged to the Aisin Gioro clan and was named Xuanye, the third son of the Shunzhi Emperor. During his 61-year reign as emperor, he pacified the Three Feudatories, recaptured Taiwan, resisted the Manchus, and stabilized the borders. He managed the rivers and lakes, promoted education and culture, valued science, and encouraged agricultural development. It was precisely because of his diligent and unwavering dedication to his duties that he maintained the great unity of China's territory and brought about the last brilliant period of the feudal society in China, known as the Kangxi-Qianlong Prosperity. He thus became one of the most outstanding emperors in Chinese history. This book is composed of descriptions based on some events from the era of Kangxi.
