How to Prevent Recurrence of Trichomoniasis

Patient's question:

I have had trichomoniasis for two years. Although it was sometimes cured, it recurred later. What should I do about the recurring trichomoniasis?

Doctor's answer:

Trichomoniasis is caused by the Trichomonas parasite. The blood-sucking Trichomonas species include Trichomonas vaginalis, Trichomonas hominis, and Trichomonas oralis, which respectively feed on the urogenital system, intestines, and oral cavity. The species relevant to skin conditions is Trichomonas vaginalis, which causes recurrent trichomoniasis. In cases of recurrent trichomoniasis, symptomatic antifungal treatment is required. Potassium permanganate solution can be used for vaginal irrigation and soaking, and it can be combined with metronidazole tablets or tinidazole suppositories inserted into the vagina for treatment. During treatment, it is strictly necessary to avoid sexual activity. Generally, since this disease is infectious, both partners should be treated simultaneously.
