Features: Li Gongpu was a great patriotic and democratic figure in modern Chinese history, one of the famous "Seven Gentlemen" (Qigongzi), and a social activist, educator, and publisher. He dedicated his life to pursuing the liberation of the Chinese nation and establishing a democratic, free, and prosperous new China, ultimately sacrificing his precious life. Li Gongpu was originally from Wujin, Jiangsu, and was born in Huai'an on November 26, 1902. His family was poor, and during his youth, he worked as an apprentice in Zhenjiang. He studied at Runzhou Middle School in Zhenjiang, the preparatory school of Wuchang Wenhua University, and the preparatory school of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He was admitted to Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1925. During his time as an apprentice and student, influenced by Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary democracy and the New Culture Movement, he participated in the May Fourth Movement and the May Thirtieth Movement, becoming an active member and joining the Kuomintang, dedicating himself to the National Revolutionary Army. However, he left the army due to dissatisfaction with the Kuomintang's "Purification of the Party" and anti-communist policies. In 1928, he was admitted to Portland, Oregon, USA, to study political science at Reed College.
