Patient's question:
Will taking emergency contraception lead to another ectopic pregnancy? Could an expert help clarify this? I want to know if ectopic pregnancy could occur again.Doctor's answer:
After taking emergency contraception pills, such as mifepristone, it is generally never associated with ectopic pregnancy. The risk factors for ectopic pregnancy include: (1) Chronic tubal inflammation that causes adhesions in the tubal lining, leading to narrowed lumen, weakened peristalsis of the tube wall, allowing the egg to enter the fallopian tube for fertilization, while the fertilized egg cannot reach the uterine cavity. (2) Fallopian tube developmental abnormalities, endometriosis, and reconnection after a miscarriage, which obstruct the movement of the fertilized egg, causing it to stay in the fallopian tube for implantation and growth. (3) Pelvic tumors that are controlled or suctioned, causing displacement or deformation of the fallopian tube, obstructing the passage of the fertilized egg.
