Appearance of cervical erosion and pregnancy precautions

Patient's question:

My friend has irregular periods and stomach pain. I accompanied her to the hospital in the town for a thorough examination. The results raised suspicion of cervical erosion, so they recommended she go to a major hospital in the city for further testing. My friend recently got divorced and is very upset about the possibility of cervical erosion, fearing it will prevent her from getting pregnant. She is now very worried.

Doctor's answer:

Cervical erosion of degree II or III is classified based on the area of erosion. Since cervical erosion is caused by inflammation in only a small portion of cases, while in others, it results from the migration of columnar epithelial cells from the cervical canal, whether it is degree II or III cervical erosion, it is essential to visit a hospital to confirm how the erosion is accompanied by additional bacterial infections. Given that early-stage cervical cancer also exhibits visual changes similar to erosion, women with cervical erosion who have not undergone a cervical Papanicolaou (Pap) test in the past year should undergo a thorough examination to rule out atypical cell growth of the cervical epithelium or cervical cancer.
