Features: Tianbao Bencao Xinbian was compiled and edited by Gong Xilin and others during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, based on the Sichuan folk herbal book Tianbao Bencao. It includes revisions to the original Pharmacological Songs and additions of synonyms, morphological characteristics, pharmacological illustrations, habitat distribution, collection and processing, properties and functions, modern clinical applications, annotations, and supplementary notes. Annotations refer to the notes after collation of five different versions. The book is divided into three parts: research overview, pharmacological verses, and pharmacological songs. The pharmacological songs list 149 herbs, while there are 40 herbs mentioned in the pharmacological verses but not in the songs, totaling 189 herbs. The book includes 166 pharmacological illustrations. At the end, there are Chinese name indexes and Latin name indexes for easy reference. It is a richly illustrated Sichuan regional herbal book, serving as a reference for traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, folk herbal doctors in southwestern China, researchers of traditional Chinese medicine and folk medicine, and teaching purposes.
