New Era Writings.1

Features: This piece, titled "Preface to the Collected Works of the New Era," was originally intended to be only a few thousand words, enough to clarify the issues. Unexpectedly, the experience of being hospitalized was inserted into it. It was unavoidable to write about it. Without this process, I might have been pressured by old habits to write something like "Reflections at Ninety-One" or similar articles. When one falls ill, the "reflections" flee in panic, and the desire to "describe" disappears. Only the feelings in the hospital ward are left, which I have all written into the "Preface." This "Preface" spans from Peking University to the hospital and back to Peking University. It can be considered the author's last article of last year, or the first article of this year.
