Selected Works of Václav Havel

Author: (Norway) Trygve Haavelmo / Shen Lisheng
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2001-04-01
Features: This book includes three parts, published in chronological order: ① Probability Methods in Econometrics (1944); ② Theoretical Research on Economic Evolution (1954); ③ Theoretical Research on Investment (1960). These were selected by Professor Haavelmo himself before his passing and translated into Chinese by Capital University of Economics and Business Press for publication. The title Selected Works of Haavelmo was added by the translators. Due to the relatively late start of econometrics research and application in China, the domestic academic community has little knowledge of Haavelmo's contributions to the development of econometrics. In 1987, Ms. Qin Duo, a young scholar at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, wrote a review titled A Review of the "Haavelmo Revolution" while studying at the University of Oxford in the UK. She stated, "Haavelmo's 1944 publication Probability Methods in Econometrics is referred to by contemporary Western economists as the 'Manifesto of Modern Econometrics' and the 'Foundation of Modern Econometric Modeling Research.' Regrettably, Haavelmo is little known among his domestic peers, and domestic economics literature has not commented on this 'Haavelmo Revolution.' Western economists have affirmed Haavelmo's contributions more than analyzed them, possibly because his writings are quite abstract and fewer people could understand them at the time, and later econometricians were too busy with their daily research topics, treating the 'Haavelmo Revolution' as an established fact." In her Review, Ms. Qin Duo provides a detailed discussion of the book's basic ideas and main content, as well as a re-examination of the 'Haavelmo Revolution.'
