The best way to treat uterine fibroids

Patient's question:

In October 2011, BC carefully checked and found a uterine fibroid of 1.01.0. Then in December, I got pregnant. In February of this year, during a BC check-up, it was discovered that the fibroid had grown to 1.51.5, and I experienced a miscarriage again. From some aspects, I learned that fibroids are related to miscarriage to a certain extent. What is the best method to treat uterine fibroids?

Doctor's answer:

Generally, uterine fibroids require surgical treatment, and it is recommended to undergo surgery as soon as possible. Furthermore, treatment depends on the location of the fibroids. If the fibroids grow within the muscular wall of the uterus, even if there are multiple small ones, they may not affect the patient and can be left untreated. Treatment should only be considered if they cause symptoms or grow rapidly. Previously, a single fibroid larger than 5 cm was considered for treatment, but this criterion is not absolute now. The patient's age stage should be taken into account. If the patient is close to menopause and has no symptoms, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be performed to check for any signs of malignancy. If the growth is very slow and there are no malignant tendencies or other abnormalities, observation may be sufficient. Therefore, treatment should be tailored to the individual.
