Does the removal of the uterus affect after?

Patient's question:

I have uterine fibroids and need to have surgery. I want to ask if removing the uterus will affect after the surgery?

Doctor's answer:

Hysterectomy is one of the more common surgical procedures in gynecology, performed either through the abdomen or the vagina, to completely or partially remove the uterus. A total hysterectomy involves the complete removal of the uterine body and cervix, while a subtotal hysterectomy involves the removal of the uterine body while preserving the cervix. Studies have shown that, in terms of the hysterectomy itself, the impact on patients' sexual behavior is not significant. Approximately 40% of patients fully recover post-surgery, similar to their pre-surgery condition; around 25% experience an increase in sexual frequency or face some form of sexual dysfunction; and a very small number are unable to fully resume sexual activity, often due to postoperative fear or the misconception that a cold sensation is required post-surgery.
