What are the symptoms of uterine fibroids?

Patient's question:

A friend's sister has been divorced for three years. She has been trying to conceive on her own but hasn't been successful. Later, she went to the hospital with her friend and underwent thorough examinations in this area. It was discovered that she had uterine fibroids. She herself claimed that she didn't have any symptoms.

Doctor's answer:

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumor of the female reproductive system. The general symptoms are as follows: Uterine bleeding is the main symptom of uterine fibroids, present in half or more of the patients. Among them, cyclical bleeding (excessive menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual period, or prolonged menstrual cycle) is more common, accounting for 2/3; while non-cyclical (persistent or irregular) bleeding accounts for 1/3. The bleeding is mainly caused by intramural fibroids and submucosal fibroids. Cyclical bleeding is more likely to occur in intramural fibroids. The bleeding rates for submucosal, intramural, and subserosal fibroids are 100%, 74%, and 36%, respectively. The reasons for excessive bleeding caused by fibroids: Patients with fibroids often have excessive estrogen, which leads to the division of endometrial cells and polyps, resulting in heavy menstrual flow during menstruation; fibroids cause the uterus to shrink, increasing the endometrial area.
