Features: Based on the characteristics of Chinese characters, the initial stage of basic Chinese language teaching should separate "language" (yu) and "writing" (wen). Spoken language should first be taught using Pinyin. This book, "Three-Character Classic of Radicals," can serve as a textbook for the "copying and writing" stage of Chinese character teaching. It is suitable for students who have acquired some oral language skills and mastered the ability to copy and write Chinese characters, and then proceed to a comprehensive teaching approach that integrates character recognition, oral language, reading, and writing. The book introduces 112 character-forming radicals and 64 non-character-forming radicals in the form of a three-character classic, with four lines per stanza, using rhyme and rhythm for easy memorization. Each radical is introduced with its form, sound, meaning, stroke order, number of strokes, and stroke sequence, as well as example characters belonging to that radical. For composite characters, in addition to introducing their form, sound, and meaning, their structural types and character formation methods are also explained, along with a brief explanation of their character logic. Chinese characters have form, sound, and meaning. When teaching Chinese characters to foreigners, the sound can be represented using Pinyin, and the meaning can be translated into the students' native language. However, there is no good way to represent the form, and Chinese character forms are also quite complex, making it difficult for students to grasp them. Traditional Chinese character teaching methods have several shortcomings:
1. Treating foreign students as Chinese children.
2. Treating the basic strokes of Chinese characters as English letters.
3. Adopting a teaching approach where writing follows speaking.
4. Not distinguishing between the stroke order of monosyllabic characters and the structural order of composite characters.
This book includes: Preface; Compilation Style; Chinese Character Terminology; Three-Character Classic of Radicals; Three-Character Classic of Radicals; Radical Index; etc.
