This book is a problem-solving guide and study aid for theoretical mechanics at universities, designed for students preparing for postgraduate entrance exams. It is compiled based on the Basic Requirements for Theoretical Mechanics Teaching in Higher Industrial Schools issued by the Ministry of Education, drawing on the rich teaching experience of professors from three universities in Wuhan (Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, and Wuhan University of Technology) who have taught theoretical mechanics for many years. The book consists of thirteen chapters, with the first twelve covering the entire content of the theoretical mechanics course. Each chapter includes:
- Key Points: Summarizes the basic concepts, theories, and methods of the chapter.
- Example Solutions: Carefully selected typical examples with detailed solutions, analyzing and summarizing the theories applied, key points, difficulties, techniques, comparisons of different solution methods, and common mistakes.
- Test Exercises: Diverse question types, including true/false questions, multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blank questions, and computational problems. Objective questions primarily test the reader's understanding of basic concepts, formulas, and methods, while computational problems assess the reader's ability to logically think and calculate using these concepts, theories, and methods—i.e., their problem-solving skills.
The thirteenth chapter provides six sets of simulated final exam papers for undergraduate students and postgraduate entrance exam papers for graduate students, along with detailed solutions. This book serves as a reference and review guide for undergraduate and junior college students in engineering disciplines, as well as for those preparing for master's degree entrance exams. It is also suitable for students of radio and television universities, correspondence courses, vocational colleges, and those taking the self-taught examination for higher education. Additionally, it can be used as a teaching reference for young instructors.
