Patient's question:
Before my divorce, I had a miscarriage once. After the miscarriage, I felt lower back pain and a heavy sensation in my lower abdomen. Later, I went to the hospital for a thorough examination, and the doctor said I had chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. I have been taking traditional Chinese medicine for regulation ever since. But now I am pregnant again, and I have some abdominal bloating and pain. Could this lead to an ectopic pregnancy?Doctor's answer:
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) primarily refers to inflammation that occurs in the female's internal reproductive system. The female reproductive system is divided into external and internal reproductive organs. As shown in the diagram, the internal reproductive organs mainly include the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. From a cross-sectional view, the uterus is located in the pelvic cavity, with the bladder in front and the rectum behind it. On both sides of the uterus are two fallopian tubes. Below the fallopian tubes, in addition to the ovaries, the pelvic inflammatory disease we refer to primarily involves the inflammation of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries, such as exudation, congestion, and edema, which are collectively known as pelvic inflammation. PID is the most common factor affecting the normal development of the fertilized egg and is a common and primary cause of ectopic pregnancy. The main cause of tubal inflammation is the pathogens that lead to sexually transmitted diseases, commonly including Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis.
