The initial print run of 5,000 sets was in high demand, and by October, a separate reprint of 6,000 sets was required. Publishing such a large-scale collection of linguistic works within a short period is rare in the history of academic publishing in China. Since its release, numerous institutions and individuals have rushed to order it. Graduate and undergraduate students regard the Collection as a valuable guide, while teachers of all ages view it as a source of knowledge renewal. Practice has proven that the Collection, launched by FLTRP (Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press), has been widely praised by the domestic linguistic and foreign language teaching communities. It will become a treasure trove for advancing linguistic teaching, research, foreign language teaching, and applied linguistics in China. Building on the success of the first batch of 54 titles, FLTRP now presents the second batch of 58 titles. The second batch of the Collection features five key characteristics:
1. Comprising 58 original English-language works, it covers 33 disciplines, an increase from the first batch's 26, including newly added fields such as the history of linguistics, philosophy of language, cognitive linguistics, anthropological linguistics, the origins of language, and chemical grammar theories, thereby more comprehensively meeting readers' needs;
2. It includes influential works by renowned contemporary linguistic masters such as Saussure, Sapir, Bloomfield, Halliday, Chomsky, Austin, Grice, and Leech, ensuring higher authority;
3. It incorporates classic linguistic works published by world-renowned publishers such as Oxford University Press and Harvard University Press;
4. It continues to feature expert prefaces, with an even stronger team of experts than the first batch;
5. The Collection is prefaced by the world-famous linguist Professor Noam Chomsky and the renowned Chinese linguist Professor Jia Xianhan.
This Collection is a large-scale, open-ended series that will actively promote the development of linguistic teaching and research, as well as foreign language teaching and research in China. In the future, FLTRP will continue to introduce the latest and most influential works in linguistics and applied linguistics, continuously offering them to a broad readership.
