Features: Morphology (also known as "lexical morphology" or "morphology") is a branch of linguistics that studies the internal structure of words, including inflection and word formation. Since words have phonetic, syntactic, and semantic features, morphology is located at the intersection of phonology, syntax, and semantics. Therefore, morphology is a discipline that every linguist must focus on. The central role of words gives rise to two important issues: The first always involves the form of words, i.e., how to describe the variants of morphemes, which leads to multiple research models; the second issue involves the syntactic and semantic functions of words, i.e., how the syntactic and semantic functions of words relate to syntax and semantics, which results in overlapping areas with other disciplines in linguistics. The two issues mentioned above often challenge the independent status of morphology and make morphological research diverse in models.
