Features: New Interchange, published by Cambridge, is one of the most popular and influential English teaching materials internationally. It incorporates eight years of global classroom teaching experience and has been extensively improved based on feedback from students and teachers. The main revisions include: new conversation exercises (Conversations), new cultural snippets (Snapshots), new reading exercises (Readings), more comprehensive grammar explanations and activities (Grammar Focus models and activities), and richer listening materials. At the same time, the teacher's book, workbook, and video content have also been significantly revised. New Interchange is a large-scale English teaching material designed for learners in non-English-speaking countries. The content covers four skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—as well as pronunciation training and vocabulary expansion. It particularly emphasizes the development of listening and speaking skills. The primary goal of this book is to cultivate English communicative competence, i.e., the ability to flexibly use English based on communicative contexts, purposes, and audiences. The book primarily uses American English, but its content is not limited to any single country, region, or culture. Instead, it reflects the richness and diversity of English as a global lingua franca. This course is divided into four levels: Starter, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.
Starter Level: Designed for "true" beginners with no English foundation, it explains basic grammar structures, vocabulary, and language functions.
Level 1: Aimed at learners with a basic English level, it further develops grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, enabling learners to reach a low-intermediate level.
Level 2: Targeted at learners with a low-intermediate English level, it further enhances grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, aiming to bring learners to an intermediate level.
Level 3: Designed for learners with a mid-intermediate English level, it focuses on developing the ability to communicate in relatively fluent and accurate English.
This textbook, through a variety of thought-provoking and challenging exercises, helps students further consolidate and develop their communicative abilities in English. In addition to applied skills exercises, the material also includes advanced discourse comprehension exercises. Listening exercises include: listening to narratives, listening to advertisements, listening to discussions, and listening to interviews. Reading activities include: cross-cultural communication themes, lifestyle themes, themes of different values, and other authentic reading passages. After completing all four levels, learners can achieve a mid-high level of proficiency.
