Features: Newly Compiled University Romanian is a teaching material compiled for the undergraduate Romanian program at Beijing Foreign Studies University. It consists of four volumes and is intended for use in the foundational stage of teaching. As a non-common language, the teaching of Romanian in China began in 1956. Currently, it includes three levels: undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, becoming a valuable supplement to China's foreign language education. Our constant goal has always been to continuously improve the teaching and research standards of the Romanian program in China's higher education, cultivating high-quality talents for national development and the advancement of China-Romania relations. In recent years, to adapt our work to the development of the times and the requirements for cultivating Romanian talents, we have conducted a series of explorations and adjustments in professional teaching. To some extent, this textbook also reflects such teaching reforms. Therefore, during the writing process, we strive to achieve the following points:
1. Practicality and Timeliness of Content: The sentence patterns, texts, examples, and exercises are carefully designed to closely align with real-life situations and communication needs, making them easy to master and apply. The texts fully reflect the characteristics of the target country in terms of history, geography, politics, economy, culture and arts, tourism, sports, and folklore, while also incorporating the cultural and humanistic features of Chinese culture, especially in Beijing. Additionally, they cover both humanities and natural sciences, touching on contemporary science and technology, human-nature relationships, environmental protection, and e-commerce.
2. Systematic and Professional Knowledge: In the treatment of grammatical topics, difficulties are dispersed, with a gradual and alternating approach to segmentation. In the first and second volumes, as well as the third and fourth volumes, shallow and deep dual cycles are implemented to help students firmly grasp the basic skills of using Romanian. Key vocabulary is explained in detail with abundant practice, and the design of exercises is as diverse as possible, including systematic training in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation. Starting from the third volume, each lesson also includes concise introductions to linguistics and modern Romanian theory to enrich students' knowledge and enhance their academic literacy.
3. Accuracy and Standardization of Language: The language used in the textbook complies with modern Romanian standards, and the writing follows the orthographic rules promulgated by the Romanian Academy in 1993. Our overall vision is to use this textbook as the core material for the foundational stage, enabling students to preliminarily master Romanian in 2 to 3 years. In higher grades, they can study courses with specialized content in Romanian. Upon graduation, students will become talents with a solid language foundation, high humanistic literacy, and innovative awareness.
