Patient's question:
Does uterine fibroids cause infertility? I have uterine fibroids and don't know if it will cause infertility. Will it make me unrecognizable to my mother?Doctor's answer:
Uterine fibroids are generally divided into three types:1. Intramural fibroids: These are located within the muscular wall of the uterus and are surrounded entirely by muscle tissue. They are the most common type at initial onset.
2. Subserosal fibroids: These are formed when intramural fibroids expand toward the serosa and become thin at the surface of the uterus, directly contacting the serosal layer. They account for about 20%. If they grow between the two leaves of the broad ligament, they are classified as intraligamentous fibroids.
3. Submucosal fibroids: These develop when intramural fibroids grow into the uterine cavity and become thin within the uterine lumen, directly contacting the mucosal layer. They account for about 10%–15%.
