What is the difference between ectopic pregnancy and cysts on an ultrasound?

Patient's question:

I'm pregnant, but it's not going smoothly. I vaguely heard my husband's doctor mention ectopic pregnancy and cyst ultrasound. I don't quite understand. Who can tell me the difference between ectopic pregnancy and cyst ultrasound?

Doctor's answer:

After pregnancy, if there is a small amount of peeling accompanied by abdominal pain, go to the hospital for an ultrasound examination. If the ultrasound reveals that the gestational sac is not visible in the uterine cavity but a cystic mass is observed in the adnexal area, this may indicate an ectopic pregnancy. If the cystic mass contains a yolk sac structure or shows fetal heartbeat and fetal bud, it confirms an ectopic pregnancy. If it is only a cystic mass with excellent sound transmission and very uniform cystic characteristics, it could be a corpus luteum or a physiological cyst.
