Features: This is a series of popular science books on medicine. Each volume focuses on a common daily symptom and explores its content, including: the causes of the symptom, associated symptoms, common diseases associated with it, and how to treat and prevent it. The series consists of 6 volumes, all written by experienced doctors. For thousands of years, humans have lived according to the rhythm of "working when the sun rises and resting when the sun sets." However, sleep problems have never received enough attention, and even insomnia was merely considered a minor ailment. But in the past decade or so, due to rapid economic development and increasing social competition, the incidence of insomnia has been rising significantly, with domestic and international literature reporting rates of around 30%. Its clinical manifestations are complex and varied, severely affecting the physical and mental health of the general population. Therefore, preventing and treating insomnia has become an important task for healthcare workers. In light of this, Dr. Xu Liang, after years of dedicated research on the prevention and treatment of insomnia from both Chinese and Western medicine, combined with his clinical experience, collaborated with colleagues such as Shi Ming and Xu Hong to write the book "Self-Assessment and Prevention of Insomnia." I was fortunate to read it first and deeply felt gratified. From a clinical and practical perspective, the book provides an in-depth yet accessible introduction to general knowledge about sleep, the relationship between sleep and dreams, common factors causing insomnia, clinical manifestations, and prevention methods. It also offers insightful discussions on the relationship between sleep and the natural environment, incorporating the theory of "harmony between heaven and humanity" in traditional Chinese medicine. The book includes an "Insomnia Self-Assessment Scale" to help insomnia patients self-diagnose and self-treat. I believe the publication of this book will bring blessings to insomnia patients. May sleep and health go hand in hand. Let us start by understanding sleep and preventing insomnia.
