Features: Language is a carrier of culture, and learning English naturally involves exposure to the culture of English-speaking countries, including philosophy as an important part of culture. Looking at English reading materials published domestically, those aimed at exams are too numerous and excessive, while those that aim to comprehensively improve ideological, cultural, and reading skills are relatively scarce. The main purpose of "Read Some Philosophy" is twofold: first, to improve readers' English proficiency, and second, to help them gain a deeper understanding of Western philosophical thought. The book includes 25 selected essays, each an independent piece consisting of an article, annotations, and a reference translation. Most of the selected essays are accompanied by author biographies and briefly summarize the main ideas of the essays. Annotations are mainly divided into two categories: one is background knowledge of important figures and other information mentioned in the selected texts, and the other is vocabulary and usage beyond the scope of the College English Test Band 4. The annotations for vocabulary follow the principle of being concise and to the point, and are annotated in the order of appearance. When the same vocabulary appears repeatedly, it is generally not annotated again.
