Is it okay to have tubal contrast after 9 days of menstruation?

Patient's question:

I want to go to the hospital for a fallopian tube examination, but my period just ended. So I guess I should consult a doctor first. Is it okay to have fallopian tube angiography nine days after the period is clean?

Doctor's answer:

You are currently 9 days post-menstruation and should not undergo tubal patency testing. Tubal contrast requires a window of 3 to 7 days post-menstruation because this period allows the uterine cavity and vaginal canal to be flushed by the vagina. Additionally, the endometrium is relatively thin, making the imaging test less likely to damage the endometrium and reducing the risk of infection. During the 9-day post-menstruation period, which generally falls within the ovulation phase, the endometrium is typically thicker, and there is also a possibility that the presence of follicles in the fallopian tubes could affect the test results.
