Features: Art, as a spiritual product of humanity and an aesthetic culture, has never been more integrated into our daily lives, into the processes and outcomes of labor and production, scientific creation, and into our behavior and thinking, time and space, as it is today with the progress of human society and the development of science and technology. The "College Students' Art Quality Expansion Series" includes twelve volumes: Chinese Painting, Western Painting, Craftsmanship, Western Sculpture, Architectural Art, Costume Art, Landscape Art, Musical Art, Film and Television Art, Traditional Chinese Opera Art, Dance Art, and Chinese Calligraphy. It is specifically designed for non-art majors, placing particular emphasis on the popularization and enhancement of art quality. Today, the passion that college students invest in their pursuit of beauty and love for art seems to be in stark contrast to their limited knowledge of art history and almost blank slate of art practice, making the popularization of art quality a primary task for college students.
The College Students' Art Quality Expansion Series provides concise introductions to each art category, covering the origins, development, fundamental characteristics, representative figures and works, and artistic schools of each discipline, allowing the outline of art history to emerge. It is clear that the goal of art education for college students is to serve the initial stage of independent art appreciation, making a basic understanding of art history a necessary prerequisite. Popularization is the foundation for improvement, and only in this way can art education become more profound and meaningful.
A basic understanding of art history is not sufficient to enhance college students' art quality. Only by analyzing and interpreting the works of representative figures and classic masterpieces in art history can we provide college students with a reference model for art appreciation, which will be beneficial to their improvement in art quality. This is precisely the essence of the term "expansion," and also the fundamental mission of the College Students' Art Quality Expansion Series.
We are delighted to see that the series, based on the interpretation and critique of classic works in each art category, will expand and enhance the art quality of college students. The "series" is divided into 12 volumes, each following a similar editorial format. Each volume provides a basic introduction to the origins, development, fundamental characteristics, and classification of the art discipline. Then, in chronological order, it focuses on the interpretation, evaluation, and appreciation of representative and typical works, interspersed with a brief overview of the development of the art in different historical stages. The entire series is structured roughly along the lines of history, connecting "dots" to form "lines," and using "lines" to cover broader aspects, guiding readers to explore the development of art and appreciate its works through methods of "scanning" and "spotlighting."
The "series" strives for "readability": it aims to appreciate high art in plain language, ensuring accuracy, vividness, liveliness, and literary charm in its expressions. The "series" also strives for "visual appeal": it seeks to select representative, typical, and visually appealing images, ensuring that the illustrations are clear, aesthetically pleasing, and rich in color!
Beautiful youth needs art to accompany it, and a colorful life needs art to nourish it. Art elevates life, making it extraordinary, noble, and sacred; it elevates character, enriching the spirit. Let us join with more college students in approaching and "entering" the world of art, embracing and enjoying the precious art created by humanity!
