Is mastopathy with nodules serious?

Patient's question:

I stopped breastfeeding my child around this time last year. After weaning, I experienced breast pain. Besides the hard lumps that hurt, the doctor at the hospital said it was due to milk stasis. A few months later, the lumps became smaller and disappeared, but the pain still persisted. In May of this year, the first ultrasound report indicated breast hyperplasia with nodules. Even after taking medication, the pain did not decrease. How serious is this condition?

Doctor's answer:

Simple breast hyperplasia is not considered serious. Most breast hyperplasia is a benign condition, but nodules need to be assessed based on their size, as small nodules are generally benign. However, if a nodule continues to shrink, there is a possibility of it becoming malignant again. If the current nodule is still less than one centimeter and is accompanied by breast pain, you can consider using herbal medicine to dissolve the nodule and regulate liver Qi as the foundation. If the nodule is larger than one centimeter, I personally recommend opting for minimally invasive surgery.
