Patient's question:
Recently, I've been feeling very unwell because I'm pregnant and have had an abortion. But unexpectedly, the bleeding has been prolonged, and it hasn't stopped yet. It has already been six hours. I'm very sad. How should I deal with prolonged bleeding after an abortion?Doctor's answer:
After the abortion, it is normal to have some skin peeling within 6 hours. This is usually expected, and skin peeling may continue for at least a week after the procedure. However, if the bleeding is particularly heavy, it could indicate retained tissue in the uterus or poor uterine contractions. Since you are currently at the hospital, you should report this situation to your doctor. The doctor may perform additional examinations, such as an ultrasound, to determine if there is any retained tissue. If retained tissue is indeed found, a second procedure (D&C) may be necessary. In cases of poor uterine contractions, oxytocin can be used to help increase uterine contractions and promote bleeding.
